About the route
Monachil is a village that is located at 8 kilometers in the southeast of Granada, in the south-central part of Vega de Granada. Los Cahorros are situaded there, an area of amazing landscapes ideal for hiking or climbing.
This place is at 15 minutes in car from the Alhambra’s. When you arrive, you are in a different place, where peace and tranquility triumph over the traffic of the capital. This makes it a good choice for a short breake from Granada. You can leave in the morning, spend all day there and return to the city at night.
The Cahorros route runs along the Monachil River, which is born at Veleta Peak (the second highest peak in the Sierra Nevada and the fourth in the country). It has an impressive landscape, high mountains that have been scoured for centuries by its waters. The travelers walk between the walls, sometimes quite narrow, that the Monachil modeled.
